Silver Riding Nether Ray offers a very different flying silhouette from another dragon or gryphon. The broad ray body and silver-toned palette suit a collector who likes Outland creatures with a slightly alien appearance.

The color is a fixed reputation purchase, not a random reward from catching a ray. The useful preparation is unlocking the Sha'tari Skyguard hub and choosing a reputation method you can repeat.

Quick Answer

Buy Silver Riding Nether Ray, item 32318, from Grella at Blackwind Landing in Terokkar Forest, Outland, at Sha'tari Skyguard Exalted. The base price is 200 gold, normally 160 after the required Exalted discount. Learn the item to unlock this shared-faction flying-capable mount. It remains obtainable in Retail.

Mount Overview

This is one of the five reputation nether-ray colors sold by Grella. Silver is an independent collection entry, so buying another color does not unlock it automatically.

Unlike an aquatic skate, this ray supports normal flying where the character and location permit it. It also follows normal mount-use rules on the ground. The ray shape does not make it a water-only collectible.

It carries one rider and has no merchant service. The appeal is the unusual flying animal and a predictable reputation endpoint rather than an extra utility function.

How to Get Silver Riding Nether Ray

Check existing reputation

Look for an older character already Exalted with Sha'tari Skyguard. Do not confuse that faction with The Sha'tar or the Aldor and Scryers, which are separate Shattrath-related reputations.

Either Alliance or Horde can complete this purchase. One learned copy covers the same shared named mount, so there is no benefit to repeating the faction project solely to buy Silver again on the other side.

Reach Blackwind Landing

Travel to Shattrath in Outland, then the Skettis area in southeastern Terokkar Forest. Grella stands at Blackwind Landing around 64.4, 66.2 on the Terokkar map.

Use a character with convenient flight access for the elevated hub and surrounding farm. The destination is Outland's Terokkar, not Draenor's similarly themed arakkoa areas.

Buy the silver color

At Exalted, open Grella's stock and select Silver Riding Nether Ray. Check the uncollected marker, pay the displayed gold price, and use the purchased item from your bags.

No hatchling quest or rare catch follows the purchase. The item teaches the completed mount directly.

Unlocking the Skyguard Hub

If starting fresh, find Yuula near Shattrath's flight area around 64.2, 42.6. Complete Threat from Above by dealing with the Gordunni ogres in the Barrier Hills, then follow To Skettis! to Blackwind Landing.

At the Skyguard camp, speak to Severin around 64.1, 66.8 and complete World of Shadows. That quest uses six Shadow Dust and opens the repeatable More Shadow Dust route.

Continue any introductory steps offered by the camp if that turn-in is not yet available. You do not need to finish every optional Terokk summon or the separate Blade's Edge quest network just to use the straightforward dust method.

Reputation Method: Dust and Skettis Enemies

Kill eligible arakkoa around Skettis and loot their bodies for Shadow Dust. The enemies can contribute reputation directly, while the dust adds repeatable turn-ins.

Give Severin six Shadow Dust per More Shadow Dust completion. This is repeatable rather than a once-per-day assignment, so you can continue while you have dust and the quest is available.

Shadow Dust is tradable. Buying it through the Auction House is an alternative if the current price makes sense for your budget. Check the cost per full six-dust turn-in rather than buying an arbitrary large stack.

The reward includes Elixir of Shadows, which lets you interact with the hidden time-lost enemies used by the camp's deeper reputation chain. That provides an expanded farming option; it is not a requirement to buy a ray after Exalted.

Available Skyguard dailies can supplement the grind. Work from your current standing and actual gains instead of assuming every collector needs the same number of turn-ins or the same fixed number of days.

Requirements and Cost

You need Sha'tari Skyguard Exalted, access to Grella's merchant service, enough gold, and the usual riding eligibility. Flight use elsewhere still follows the character's normal permissions.

The 200-gold base cost becomes 160 with the ordinary Exalted discount. Since Exalted is already the shop requirement, that discounted figure is the familiar normal purchase amount.

There is no profession, PvP rank, raid achievement, or Netherwing Exalted requirement. Netherwing drakes share the expansion, but their faction and quests are different.

Efficient Farming Tips

Loot while clearing Skettis. Leaving dust behind means losing the repeatable part of a kill circuit. If buying dust, compare the gold cost with the time you want to spend farming rather than assuming the Auction House is always cheaper.

Reserve the mount gold before buying optional rewards. If all five ray colors are missing, their combined base price is 1,000 gold, normally 800 at the usual Exalted discount.

The Skyguard tabard is not a capital-style dungeon championing shortcut. Do not buy it expecting arbitrary dungeon kills to finish the reputation.

Check the exact Silver entry before paying. Another pale ray or a previously learned nether-ray color does not prove this collectible is already complete.

Is It Still Obtainable?

Yes. Silver Riding Nether Ray remains a permanent Retail reputation-vendor mount. It does not require an active Burning Crusade event or a rare vendor rotation. The standard Blackwind Landing source remains the purchase route.

Collection Value

The reputation project is particularly worthwhile when several ray colors are missing. One Exalted standing opens the whole related selection, while Silver supplies a cooler appearance that is easy to pair with pale armor or darker riding outfits.

For collectors who prefer a guaranteed endpoint to a rare drop, this is a manageable project with multiple ways to advance the same bar.
