Lightning gives the Thundering August Cloud Serpent a very different presence from Pandaria's plain training serpents. The long body still coils through the air in the familiar style, but the electrical effects make it a stronger match for storm-themed armor and weapons.

Its source is less dramatic than its appearance: this is an August Celestials reputation purchase. You can plan the finish without relying on a world boss to drop anything.

Quick Answer

Earn Exalted with the August Celestials and buy Reins of the Thundering August Cloud Serpent, item 89304, for a base price of 10,000 gold. Alliance buyers use Sage Whiteheart at the Shrine of Seven Stars; Horde buyers use Sage Lotusbloom at the Shrine of Two Moons in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. The mount remains obtainable in Retail, supports flight, and is available to both factions through their respective quartermasters.

Mount Overview

This is a Mists of Pandaria cloud serpent with a thundering visual treatment. The source faction is the August Celestials, whose temple activities take collectors across several Pandaria zones.

The mount is distinct from the Thundering Ruby Cloud Serpent associated with Alani and the Thundering Jade Cloud Serpent associated with guild rewards. Similar electrical effects do not make their acquisition interchangeable.

It carries one rider and provides no merchant services. Your character's riding progression and the area's flight rules determine where you can use it in the air.

How to Get the Thundering August Cloud Serpent

Locate your quartermaster

Alliance characters should visit Sage Whiteheart on the lower Summer Terrace area of the Shrine of Seven Stars, around 84.8, 63.5 on the Vale map. Horde characters should speak with Sage Lotusbloom at the Shrine of Two Moons, roughly 62.6, 23.2.

These are the faction quartermasters in the Vale, not the individual Celestial bosses on the Timeless Isle. The merchant's reputation requirement and the Timeless Isle's boss encounters are separate systems.

If your Vale is in a later assault phase and the expected NPCs are missing, look for Zidormi's speech-bubble marker near the Seat of Knowledge and switch to the earlier version of the zone. Enable trivial-quest tracking when using an established high-level character.

Follow the available Celestial assignments

Ask the quartermaster how you can help the August Celestials and follow the available assignment to its temple. The faction's daily activities rotate between locations including the Temple of the White Tiger in Kun-Lai Summit, Temple of the Jade Serpent in the Jade Forest, Niuzao Temple in Townlong Steppes, and the Red Crane area in Krasarang Wilds.

Complete the introductory objectives and the daily set offered at the active location. Do not fly a full circuit expecting every temple's complete daily set to be available simultaneously. The current assignment is a better starting point than an old static route.

You do not need to reach Revered with Golden Lotus first in current Retail. That prerequisite was removed long ago. If a historical guide sends you into a separate Golden Lotus grind solely to unlock these dailies, it is adding work that no longer belongs to this route.

Improve gains at Revered

At Revered, purchase and use the Grand Commendation of the August Celestials. Its reputation-gain bonus helps the remaining grind and is worth checking before completing another batch of quests or consuming saved reputation items.

The commendation is a bonus to reputation earnings, not a button that instantly changes your standing to Exalted. Likewise, a character owning a related collectible does not prove that the purchasing character has completed the merchant's requirement.

An alternative supplement is Stolen Celestial Insignia from eligible Zandalari rares in Pandaria. The relevant rare can drop different faction insignias, so do not assume every kill supplies the Celestial version. Use the correct item and verify the resulting bar.

During Mists of Pandaria Timewalking, Mistweaver Xia on the Timeless Isle also offers August Celestials reputation commendations for Timewarped Badges. Her ordinary event stock lists the faction commendation at 50 badges. Check the displayed reward and your active bonuses before purchasing a large batch.

Make the final purchase

When the August Celestials reputation entry reads Exalted, return to the appropriate shrine merchant. Budget the full 10,000-gold base amount and check the actual displayed price before buying; applicable vendor discounts can reduce what you pay.

Use the reins and confirm the mount in your journal. Earning Exalted alone does not automatically teach the appearance or waive its separate gold cost.

Location

The purchase takes place in Pandaria's Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Reputation work can send you to other Pandaria temples, but you do not buy the mount inside a raid or from an Order of the Cloud Serpent trainer.

For Timewalking reputation tokens, the supplementary vendor is on the Timeless Isle. That island visit is optional and event-dependent; the normal Exalted mount purchase is not restricted to Timewalking weeks.

Requirements

• August Celestials Exalted.
• Gold for the merchant purchase, with a 10,000-gold base budget.
• Access to the appropriate faction shrine and any introductory quests needed for its daily activities.
• Ordinary mount-use eligibility; no required profession or world-boss kill.

Farming Tips

Keep the correct faction bar tracked during the grind. Order of the Cloud Serpent, Emperor Shaohao, and August Celestials are separate reputations despite their overlapping Pandaria themes.

If spending badges, buy a small amount first, use the items, and check the resulting progress. This avoids overspending when a reputation bonus changes how much each token contributes.

Daily progress is predictable, but the number of days is not universal. Existing standing, commendation ownership, available tokens, and active bonuses matter more than a fixed calendar estimate copied from the expansion's launch.

Is This Mount Still Obtainable?

Yes. The mount is a standard Retail reputation reward. You can buy it whenever eligible; it is not retired, a current seasonal rating reward, or dependent on a Trading Post rotation.

Is It Worth Farming?

The electrical effects make it a good choice for someone who wants a striking serpent with a reliable endpoint. The main tradeoff is whether the reputation and gold appeal more than the separate sources for other thundering colors.

For broad Pandaria collections, this project fits naturally alongside shrine visits and other legacy reputation work.

Who Should Prioritize This Mount

Storm-themed characters and collectors who prefer guaranteed rewards over low-drop-rate bosses should give it a close look. Preview the model first: cloud-serpent movement is distinctive, and its long silhouette may matter more to you than its rarity.
