Purple Riding Nether Ray is a strong choice for a collector who wants an Outland flyer with a broad, unusual outline. Its color gives the classic nether ray a more decorative look without adding a large suit of armor.

There is no need to wait for a rare purple enemy. The exact mount is sold at Blackwind Landing once the Sha'tari Skyguard reputation bar is finished.

Quick Answer

Purchase Purple Riding Nether Ray, item 32316, from Grella in southeastern Terokkar Forest, Outland, at Sha'tari Skyguard Exalted. Its base price is 200 gold, normally 160 with the Exalted discount. Use the item to learn this permanent Retail flying-capable mount. Both factions can collect and use it.

Mount Overview

This is a separate color in Grella's five-ray reputation selection. The ray body and broad fins provide a different flying profile from gryphons, drakes, or wind riders.

The model is not an aquatic-only skate. It supports normal flight where your character can fly, alongside ordinary permitted ground use. Its creature family does not impose a water-only collection category.

There are no passenger seats or repair vendors. Buy it for the purple ray appearance and a deterministic source rather than expecting a special service mount.

How to Obtain Purple Riding Nether Ray

Establish the correct standing

You need Sha'tari Skyguard Exalted. The Sha'tar, Netherwing, Aldor, and Scryers are different reputations; progress with one does not automatically replace this mount's condition.

Check old Outland characters before starting over. A previous Skyguard project can make the remaining acquisition a short merchant visit, and either faction's purchase teaches this same named mount.

Reach Grella

From Shattrath, travel toward Skettis in the southeastern mountains of Terokkar Forest. Grella is at Blackwind Landing around 64.4, 66.2.

Use the Outland map and a character with convenient flight access. Draenor arakkoa zones are not the location for this merchant even though they share visual themes.

Buy and learn

Open Grella's merchant inventory, select Purple Riding Nether Ray, and confirm its learned marker. Pay the gold total shown and use the item from your bags.

The mount is learned directly. There is no ray-taming stage or additional quest reward after the item purchase.

Starting the Reputation Route

Yuula in Shattrath, around 64.2, 42.6 near the flight area, offers Threat from Above. Complete the Barrier Hills ogre objective and follow To Skettis! into the Skyguard camp.

At Blackwind Landing, Severin around 64.1, 66.8 offers World of Shadows. Complete its six-Shadow-Dust requirement to open More Shadow Dust, the repeatable reputation turn-in.

If the repeatable option is missing, finish the camp's introductory steps first. The full optional Terokk summoning chain and the Blade's Edge Skyguard branch are not mandatory merely to make dust turn-ins and eventually shop at Exalted.

Farming Sha'tari Skyguard

Eligible arakkoa around Skettis give reputation and can drop Shadow Dust. Clear a practical circuit, loot every body, and check that the correct faction is increasing.

More Shadow Dust accepts six dust per completion. Because it is repeatable, it offers progress beyond a fixed daily quest list. Turn in what you have, then continue farming or prepare another supply.

You can buy tradable Shadow Dust from the Auction House instead of collecting every piece yourself. Check the current price per six before committing to a large purchase, since the market determines the shortcut's gold cost.

The awarded Elixir of Shadows reveals time-lost enemies for the extended camp chain. Players who want a more involved farm can follow that route, while a collector focused only on the mount can keep using the straightforward dust method.

Skyguard dailies are another supplement. Watch your current standing and the actual rewards instead of relying on an old guide's universal day count or a fixed total of dust that ignores introductory reputation and bonuses.

Requirements and Price

You need Skyguard Exalted, Grella's accessible stock, the gold payment, and normal riding eligibility. Using flight outside the shop area still follows your character's ordinary flight permissions.

The item has a 200-gold base price. With the usual 20-percent Exalted discount it costs 160 gold, explaining the two figures commonly listed for the same purchase.

No profession, arena rating, raid achievement, or separate Netherwing reputation applies. This purple ray is a shop reward, not the purple color of a different flying family.

Collection and Time-Saving Tips

If several colors are missing, inspect Grella's whole selection while at the camp. Each ray color has its own journal entry, and learning Purple does not teach the other four.

One completed reputation opens the related stock. You do not need to repeat the same grind on the opposing faction to collect another copy of the identical Purple mount.

Keep the purchase gold separate from any Auction House dust budget. It is easy to finish the bar through bought materials and discover that the remaining gold is committed elsewhere.

The Skyguard tabard is not an old capital championing tabard. Wearing it in random dungeons is not the intended route to the mount reputation.

Is It Still Obtainable?

Yes. Purple Riding Nether Ray remains a permanent Retail vendor reward. It has no holiday rotation, raid loot reset, or limited promotional window. Once Exalted and the gold are ready, the purchase is predictable.

Transmog Pairings

The purple palette suits darker cloth, jewel-toned outfits, and collectors who enjoy Outland's unusual creatures. Its broad flying outline stands out without the huge wingspan of many newer dragons.

The model is older and simpler, but that distinctive shape is the reason to choose it. The fixed merchant source makes it a good break between more uncertain mount farms.
