An armored brown horse remains a convincing companion for an Alliance knight long after far more elaborate mounts become available. Swift Brown Steed has the familiar cavalry shape without the enormous wings or magical effects that can overwhelm a simple armor set.

Its journal flavor can suggest a crusader's campaign, but the actual acquisition is a horse-breeder purchase. You do not need Argent Crusade reputation or a Northrend tournament title.

Quick Answer

Buy Swift Brown Steed, item 18777, from Katie Stokx in Stormwind's Old Town area. The actual base purchase price is 10 gold, normally 8 with an Exalted discount. Humans have racial access; other eligible Alliance buyers need Stormwind Exalted. Use the item to learn this Alliance ground mount. It remains obtainable in Retail.

Mount Overview

This is the armored-style brown human racial horse. Ordinary Brown Horse and Chestnut Mare are separate collectibles rather than items that automatically become the Swift steed as your character levels.

The word Swift comes from the historical racial-mount system. Current ground movement follows the character's riding rules, so this particular appearance does not add a unique modern speed tier.

The horse has no passenger seat, flying mode, or vendor service. Its collection value is the restrained cavalry look and a fixed, accessible purchase route.

How to Get Swift Brown Steed

Pick the buyer

An existing human who can visit Stormwind can use its racial purchase access without earning Exalted first. Check that option before starting a reputation farm on a different race.

A non-human Alliance character already Exalted with Stormwind is equally suitable. Learn one copy through the easiest qualified character; eligible alts use the shared collection afterward without buying another steed each.

Find Katie Stokx

Katie is the Horse Breeder near SI:7, just outside Old Town, around 77.0, 67.8 on the Stormwind map. Look for the horse area near Darlene Stokx, but buy from Katie's merchant inventory rather than interacting only with a riding NPC.

You do not need to travel into an instance or complete a crusader quest despite the mount's flavor text. Stormwind itself contains the complete purchase route.

Purchase and learn

Select Swift Brown Steed and inspect its learned status. Bring 10 gold for the base price, pay the displayed amount, and use the item from your bags.

Confirm the exact Swift Brown entry in the journal. There is no follow-up saddle upgrade or delivery quest after the purchase, and owning an ordinary horse is not required beforehand.

Price Clarification

Some journal descriptions show a misleading one-gold cost. For the actual Swift Brown Steed item, budget the 10-gold base merchant price rather than using that journal line as a shopping total.

The ordinary Brown Horse costs one gold and is a different entry. A discounted Swift price can also differ from the base: a normal 20-percent Exalted reduction brings 10 gold to 8.

Historical comments quoting large epic-riding bills belong to older progression systems. Keep the current mount item payment separate from those old training expenses and from the separate ordinary horse purchase.

Stormwind Reputation Route

For a non-human buyer, Captain Lancy Revshon sells the Stormwind Tabard near the ramp to Stormwind's flightmaster in the Trade District. Equip the actual championing item before clearing eligible legacy dungeons.

Normal Botanica in Netherstorm, Outland, offers a practical repeatable option for an established character. Fly to its entrance at the Tempest Keep complex, select Normal difficulty, and verify Stormwind reputation gains from eligible enemies.

Clear the dungeon and use the exit after the final boss. Leave, reset instances through your character portrait menu, and repeat as needed within the normal entry limit. Heroic has a daily lockout and is not the same repeatable plan.

The tabard's wardrobe appearance is not its effect. Also, current follower dungeons should not be assumed to award old racial reputation. Check actual gains before committing to repeated runs.

At Exalted, return to Katie and buy the mount. If an older character already has partial standing, work from that real balance rather than assuming a universal number of clears.

Requirements

• An eligible Alliance buyer with human racial access or Stormwind Exalted.
• Access to Katie Stokx's merchant service.
• Up to 10 gold for the base item price.
• Normal ground-riding eligibility.

There is no Argent Crusade, Silver Covenant, profession, arena-rating, or raid-achievement requirement. A human can already shop before Exalted; on that character, additional reputation provides a discount rather than initial eligibility.

Efficient Collection Tips

Check Katie's learned markers before buying. A brown-looking horse in your journal may be an ordinary color, a different armored mount, or this exact entry. Duplicate purchases do not increase collection totals.

Katie stocks the human racial horse selection, making a combined visit convenient. Swift Palomino and Swift White Steed are separate appearances, and the ordinary horses can be bought independently rather than in a mandatory sequence.

Do not confuse this steed with tournament horses or PvP warhorses. Those sources may share armor themes but use different currencies and access conditions.

Is It Still Obtainable?

Yes. Swift Brown Steed remains a permanent Retail racial-vendor purchase. It has no holiday window, raid lockout, or seasonal deadline. The correct buyer and merchant are enough to finish it predictably.

Collection Value

A restrained horse is useful for city riding and traditional Alliance outfits. Its older model will not compete with every modern mount for detail, but the cavalry silhouette is versatile. For an eligible collector, the low fixed price makes it an easy gap to close.

Similar Mounts

• Swift White Steed provides the pale armored racial alternative.
• Swift Palomino gives another warm horse palette from the same collection.
